Wedding in Val d’Orcia

Val d’Orcia is a great valley right below Siena, to the south of Tuscany. As all the neighbouring area of the Chianti, Val d’Orcia is characterized by a vast flourishing countryside and testimonies of its antique origins are visible everywhere! Val d’Orcia most important medieval and renaissance burgs are Pienza, Montalcino, San Quirico d’Orcia and the small town of Bagno Vignoni.

As in the Chianti area (north Siena), cypress alleys and rolling green fields will be the background of your journey in this land, but notwithstanding the similarities, the landscape is more rural…maybe less touristic, but for this reason more fascinating! Here, you will really sense antique feelings of long ways through a gentle nature to the discovery of dispersed ancient burgs hidden behind the last cypress on the horizon. If you plan your wedding in Val d’Orcia, every landscape, burg or tree will stand still on your memory…unforgettable images in the course of the time!

Pienza is a small medieval city located up on a hill of the valley. Visiting this town is very easy: follow the main stone street and discover the beautiful terrace right behind the main church. From up on high the ancient walls of the town, a magnificent view on the Val d’Orcia opens wide in front of your eyes. Pienza then, is very famous for its small shops with any kind of genuine local products, especially sheep’s cheese! Try the “pecorino di Pienza” and have an aperitif with the local Rosso wine by the “vicolo dell’amore” (love street) with your bride or groom. This is very nice town to celebrate your wedding in Tuscany or at least to visit during your wedding journey through Tuscany.

Montalcino is as well a medieval village and a bit bigger town. But what stands out most in this area is its tasteful red wine, the famous Brunello di Montalcino. The intensive vineyard cultivations all around the city welcome guests at their arrival to this city and the favourable climate will guarantee an exquisite and exciting wedding stay in Tuscany!

Val d’Orcia then is also tiny burgs along your way through the countryside, so visit also San Quirico, an ancient Etruscan burg, with its Collegiata and the Horti Leonini gardens. Make a stop also in Bagno Vignoni, a splendid small burg with a castle towering on the mountain, the mill park and the yet functioning ancient Roman thermal baths!
