Cristina, the “sunflower bride” in Umbria

Cristina chooses the sunflower as “symbol flower” of her wedding day, on July 28th.

Although living in North of Italy because of their jobs, Cristina and her groom Alessandro decided to celebrate their special wedding day in Umbria, firmly rooted in their land of origin and surrounded by family and friends. Cristina wedding’s dress was bought in a little boutique in Bastia Umbra and Cristina, as Italian tradition requires, didn’t show it to her husband to be before their wedding day! Her mother and mother in law were by her side when she bought it, she said it was the third one she was trying on and she felt immediately “it was the one”…you fall in love with wedding dresses as it happens with men! Her “white dress” was a simple yet elegant dress with floral theme decor accompanied by a lovely bouquet of white roses and sunflowers.

Sunflowers are always special flowers for a wedding. Gifts of radiant warmth, they are the happiest of flowers and their meanings include loyalty and longevity making them perfect for a wedding. They are unique in their ability to provide energy mirroring the sun itself and the energy provided by its heat and light.

The ceremony was held in the beautiful Romanesque Church of San Claudio, in Spello. Already built in 1025, the Church stands in the ancient Roman amphitheater area and has a basilica plan with a semicircular apse oriented, as usual, to the East side. Valuable feature in the church interior is the decoration of substantial votive frescoes dating back to the XIV and XV centuries.

The bride was really filled with emotion while walking down the aisle with her dad, surrounded by the most beloved friends and family members coming from many different parts of Italy. “Being there, dressed as a princess and surrounded by my sunflowers and the people I love, ready to become my fiancé’s wife, was just my child’s dream coming true…it was really pure happiness!”.

After the ceremony, Spello became the perfect location for the wedding photo shooting, followed by some amazing pictures taken among the majestic and golden fields of sunflowers in the countryside around Bevagna, delicious medieval town, listed by “I Borghi Piu’ Belli d’Italia”, the most beautiful villages of Umbria and whole Italy.

In Bevagna, some pictures were taken in the ancient public fountain area where women once were used to do their wash in the clear waters of the Clitunno river (the same well-known Clitunno praised by writers and poets and located on the way to Spoleto) . The bridal couple enjoyed a private driver for the day on board of a magnificent vintage car.

The restaurant they chose for their wedding dinner is located close to Assisi, other well-known Umbrian jewel. Family and friends enjoyed a mix of traditional refined Umbrian cuisine: a rich opening buffet with salami and fried appetizers was offered, followed by   fine first courses with truffle and porcini mushrooms sauce, roasted local meat and even a delicious pear with Sagrantino wine sauce on top, (wine of excellence in Umbria) as “local” dessert. The wedding cake was offered by the pool where many floating candles all around gave the night a special romantic glow.
